Definition | A system of classifying dental alloys by type. 1. The older system in use today is based on the hardness of the alloy: Type I (soft), Type II (medium), Type III (hard) and Type IV (extra hard). 2. The newer system is based on the composition of the alloy: High Noble (at least 60% noble metal, including at least 40% gold), Noble (at least 25% noble metal) and Base Metal (less than 25% noble metal). |
