| Definition | The first stage of surgery for a dental implant. For subperiosteal implants, it includes opening the mucosa, impressioning the bone and taking a bite registration. For endosteal implants, it includes opening the mucosa, preparing a site in the bone to receive the implant and placement of the implant body. A cover screw is placed on the implant and the mucosa is then sutured closed over the implant body. |
